ATHLEAD was created by former collegiate-student athletes who believe that leadership & life lessons taught through athletics are the truest benefit in sport. All ATHLEAD events feature leadership development sessions and are held on college campuses.
Why ATHLEAD? The experiences we had while being college football student-athletes greatly impacted our lives. Our football experiences prepared us to be successful in various aspects of life including business, family and personal. We cannot point to one lesson or experience, but rather had a code programmed into us by the great coaches who mentored us for success. That code was ingrained over our four years at Rutgers University and it ensured that we would always out-work our opponents, put forth tremendous preparation (you win the week of…not the day of), mental toughness, determination, and accountability.
The ATHLEAD Program is owned by SSEC, a sports marketing agency based in Cranbury, New Jersey. The founder of SSEC is Garrett Shea, who has successfully built programs like the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on NBC, U.S. Army National Combine, Football University (FBU), PlayStation All-American Baseball Game, NY Giant's Heart of a Giant program, Walter Payton Athlete of the Year, USA Football's National Team among other programs.
Tom McGuire also joins the leadership team where he brings a wealth of event and player personnel experience. McGuire currently serves on the Maxwell Football Club High School Board and previously served as a college football player personnel staff member and played a key role in events like the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and Football University.
ATHLEAD looks forward to hosting student-athletes from across the Northeast at The Birthplace of College Football on Saturday, April 13, 2019. Rutgers University will be featuring a number of family friendly elements as part of Rutgers Football Spring Game at the Stadium.
